Released at the end of August, to an 80% Metacritic rating, was the eerie horror thriller Until Dawn on PlayStation 4. The game sees a group of friends stranded on the secluded Blackwood Pines mountain, facing a terrifying night of horror when they suspect they’re not alone and a killer is on the loose!
We were once again tasked by Sony Computer Entertainment to create a media kit to inform recipients about the game’s unique butterfly effect narrative, setting and key features, whilst portraying it’s horror aesthetic in a non-tacky manner. The final kit, limited to 2000 quantity, is presented as a long forgotten souvenir from the area, but with numerous macabre details reflective of the game itself.
A card o-ring holds an A5+ hinged lid metal tin, which was screenprinted and embossed, before being individually hand distressed and rusted. Inside the tin is a weathered local tour guide booklet, with stylised imagery and localised text about the game. Sinister handwritten annotations feature throughout the booklet, alongside blood strewn artefacts stashed within: a set of photos; an old guide map that features a twisted outline of the killer’s plans; a ripped out Yearbook page with details about the characters; a hotel/sanatorium sticker; and the game disc – styled to look like a home-burnt CD-R.
