Farmageddon: A Shaun the Sheep Movie

shaun the sheep 2

Everyone is familiar with Aardman, if not their name then their style. They are masters of claymations - stop motion animations made from clay. It's highly anticipated after the success of Shaun the Sheep 1, which follows the antics of the mischievous Shaun and the rest of the sheep. They went on an adventure to the big city, to rescue their farmer - they caused his amnesia, of course!

We love Aardman's style, from Chicken Run to Wallace & Gromit - it's very unique. They create something very special every single time, even when it is mischievous sheep!

With no trailer, all we know about the second instalment is that there’s an alien invasion coming to the farm. This is the first sequel Aardman have ever produced but we're sure it’ll be as funny and crazy as the first! With a release date of 5th April 2019, we can’t wait to see it!

IT: Chapter Two

IT chapter 2

IT is a classic horror movie, based on the book by Stephen King we knew it was going to be horrible and brilliant. Set in 1989, it follows The Losers’ Club, a group of teenagers that all realise the same thing is terrorising them. Pennywise or IT can shape shift, it takes on the thing you fear most. IT only comes out every 27 years, feeding on the kids of Derry before hibernating.

At the end of Chapter 1, the group make a pact - when IT resurfaces, they will all come back to Derry and kill it for good. Chapter 2 is set in 2016, details are very thin but it follows the group as they return to their hometown. Due for release on the 6th September 2019, this is definitely one to watch out for!

Captain Marvel

Captain marvel movie

Everyone knows Marvel, in 2019 we get our first female led superhero movie from them  - Captain Marvel. It centres around Carol Danvers, an ex US Air Force fighter pilot. She’s also a member of Starforce, they are an elite Kree military team. Whilst serving, Danvers is in an accident and her DNA fuses with that of a Kree. This results in her gaining superpowers, such as superhuman strength, flight and a resistance to most toxins and poisons.

Set in 1995, Earth is in the middle of intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds. We get to meet Nick Fury pre eye patch, Captain Marvel is his first superhero encounter and this film shapes his path for the other 19 (yes, really!) movies. The Skrull (shapeshifters) also make an appearance. They are villains and at war with the Kree, led by Thanos. We cannot wait to see this movie when it comes out on the 8th March 2019!

Sonic the Hedgehog

sonic the hedgehog

Sonic is a iconic figure form the 90’s, starting out as a video game on the Sega Genesis. He can run at supersonic speeds, which was great fun when trying not to die! Over the years, Sonic has appeared on TV in series’ such as Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Underground. There were talks to release a movie in 1995 but it got cancelled. 2019 is the first Sonic movie which is a pretty big deal to those who grew up with him!

Details are very limited, what we do know is that Sonic is a 'juvenile delinquent" who is on the run from the government. The main protagonist is Dr Robotnik, portrayed by Jim Carrey and he is after world domination. Sonic isn't battling Robotnik alone though, San Fran cop Tom Wachowski assists him.

There are some fears about Paramount's adaption and how true it is to the Sonic IP. Fans believe the plot will alienate the gaming fan base and that the company haven't understood the property at all. We will have to wait and see how this movie pans out, the live action animation is due out on the 8th November 2019!

The Irishman

the irishman

The Irishman, based on the book by Charles Brandt, tells the story of Frank Sheeran. Frank ‘The Irishman’ Sheeran was a labor union official, he had Mob connections and learnt to kill in the army. The book, titled ‘I heard you paint houses’, is about Frank’s confessions of the crimes he committed for the Mob. One in particular is how he murdered Jimmy Hoffa, a labor union leader and whose body is still missing.

We love the look of this because it's very dark and takes a direct look at murder. Favourite fact is that Robert De Niro had to wear huge platforms to adjust his height - which just adds a touch of comedic effect!

Told through Frank and his involvement, the film centres around the death of Hoffa. Other details are scarce, what we do know is that Robert De Niro is cast as Frank and Al Pacino is Jimmy. It’s directed by Martin Scorsese, known for movies such as - The Wolf of Wall Street, Raging Bull and Shutter Island. This American biographical crime story is due out on Netflix at some point in 2019.

In the movie, Tom Holland plays Todd with Daisy Ridley set to play Viola. The plot will centre around the first book, although plot details are scarce. The Kid Who Would Be King

the kid who would be king

The story of Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table is famous has many TV shows and movies already. Arthur was a legendary leader in Britain, he is the subject of many folklore tales - such as those of magic and the supernatural. Merlin is also a prominent character in the Arthurian legend, he is a wizard and prophet. The Excalibur is a legendary sword that’s origins are in debate. One theory is that Arthur pulled it out the stone, the other is that the Lady of the Lake gave it to Arthur.

We can't wait for this movie, it's a refreshing take on an old classic. Our favourite bit of the trailer is google translating the writing on the sword and bursting into laughter!

Joe Cornish, director of Attack the Block, is the writer and director for The Kid Who Would Be King. Louis Ashbourne Serkis is plays Alex, a bullied young teen. Finding and pulling the Sword of Arthur out of a stone, he finds out that he has to create a new round table. It has a lot of humour, our favourite being young Merlin!
