Celebrating Video Games Day!
At Fluid we love video games, so this Video Games Day we wanted to celebrate the best that the industry has to offer!
According to Metacritic, the website that reviews TV shows, movies and video games, the best rated games of 2017 aren’t what you would expect. Let’s begin the countdown with the top 5!
METACRITIC TOP PICKS:
5. Super Mario Galaxy
That’s right! We all kind of suspected that Mario would appear on this list, he’s a childhood icon for most. Super Mario Galaxy scored a critic score of 97 out of 100 with a user score of 9 out of 10 - so it’s a pretty impressive game!
We get to explore new and wonderfully weird planets as we chase creatures to rescue Princess Peach. Seriously give it a go, it’s hours of fun!
SoulCalibur is still releasing games and although this game was released in the late 90’s it is still one of the best games ever. It has a critic score was 98 out of 100 and a user score of 8.6 out of 10, definitely a defining game!
The game follows the pursuit of the Soul Edge, a legendary weapon that is used to slaughter people. Nightmare, the current warrior of the sword must be tracked down and released from the swords curse.
3. Grand Theft Auto 4
Nobody played this game and didn’t run over a few people or try to get the biggest police chase ever or steal a tank. Grand Theft Auto was one of the most widely celebrated game franchises in history. GTA4 scored 98 out of 100 and had a user score of 7.5 out of 10.
GTA 4 allowed you to do things you couldn’t in real life - mainly because it was illegal and you’d probably go to jail… The story follows Niko as he pursues the America Dream with his cousin Roman, instead he ends up in the criminal underbelly of Liberty City.
2. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
Tony Hawk was a pretty big name back in the day, he was the ultimate king of the skating. Scoring 98 out 100 with a user score of 7.4, I can see why this game made the list.
You are in control of a famous or fictional character, in order to get cash rewards you have to perform tricks and complete the objectives of each level. There are five different game play modes: Career, Free Skate, Simple Session, Multiplayer and Level Editor. They all offered the player a different way to play Pro Skater.
1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
At number one - and the clear winner, is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time! It received high praise from every publication that reviewed it. The Legend of Zelda is still one of the worlds best rated games, despite it being released in 1998. It received a critic score of 99 out of 100 and a user score of 9.2.
The game follows Link as he goes on a journey to stop ‘a wicked man of the desert’ from conquering the world. Without knowing, Link touches the Triforce making the beautiful land transform into a barren wasteland. He has to gain Rauru’s (one of the seven sages) help if he has any chance of fixing what he created. It’s an emotionally thought out game that takes you through Link’s despair and determination to sort things out!
