A visceral lookbook for sacred retro IP’s
Some briefs are a gamer’s absolute dream- this was one of them. Capcom are vanguards of perhaps the most iconic IPs in gaming history and they are enjoying something of a renaissance lately- namely through their work on the Resident Evil, Monster Hunter World and Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.
Capcom therefore decided that now was the time to shake up the visual landscape of their most celebrated creations and explore new styles for these tent-peg titles. We were invited to apply our talents and naturally, we obliged.
We explored Japanese, minimalist, tribal, rock-horror, glitch and urban art styles across Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, Resident Evil 2, Megaman and Devil May Cry.
The results were broad, striking and undeniably Capcom.
Megaman's futurist setting is the perfect playground to craft eclectic and unexpected visual elements and then subject them to the distress of an eery dystopia. Megaman somehow manages to be both timeless and novel; and while honouring this we couldn't forget Megaman's Japanese roots- Our job was communicating these insights into an exciting, cohesive and original guide that both trends and inspires.
Monster Hunter: World is a vast realm filled with an almost comically diverse and outlandish population of beasts- both of air and land, than need hunting, battling, taming and capturing through exploration, improvisation, combat and team co-ordination.
We created a range of graphics that represented the IP in more than one way. From Japanese inspired line art to emblematic icons, our aim was to enrich the world of Monster Hunter lore.
Resident Evil is the undisputed zombie-king of horror survival gaming. It was perhaps the first game to be designed from the ground up with the cinematic potential of suspense-lead gaming in mind.
Through iconic phrases, palettes, icons, patters and original creative- we have tried to capture the essence of Resident Evil.
Devil May Cry
Devil May Cry is a is frenetic and viciously stylish genre-grinder. All aesthetics of the game are highly detailed, thoroughly realised, stylistically intriguing and unique. We wanted to explore the gothic, action, gore, punk and the high fashion notes of the game for a striking consumer products programme.
