SCI-FI NOVEL INSPIRED PS4 MEDIA KIT
No Man’s Sky quickly became a landmark release not just for games development, but for the games industry as whole - celebrated and scrutinised in equal measure. Hello Games’ unprecedented vision of over 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 (18 quintillion) procedurally generated unique planets were presented in beautiful, pastel surrealism and captured the imagination of the world.
We couldn’t be more proud to have supported the game’s PS4 launch, with a limited edition of 2120 media kits for Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe, to convey the game’s grand scope and development process to media and key influencers. The kits featured numbered editioning and personalisation, via a lenticular foiled sticker that sealed the slipcase - produced in “the world’s most intensively coloured fine-quality paper”!
2120 media kits, 110 page book, 32 territories, 27 possible variants.
MULTIPLE VARIANTS & HAND DISTRESSING
To capture the feeling of No Man’s Sky near infinite universe the slipcase, book cover and and foldout pearlescent print were each a set of 3 variables, giving a number of permutations for random distribution to recipients. The book covers were distressed by hand - to mimic a well read sci-fi novel, whilst the 106 inner pages were designed to look aged - with 60 pages for space exploration notes, interspersed with images of the galaxy - and the game disc held securely in a pocket at the back of the book.
Playing on Hello Games’ declared influence of classic sci-fi “especially those amazing, vibrant book covers” - we utilised the amazing artwork they commissioned, some of which was exclusive to the media kit, to depict the game’s influences and give the kit a unique style.
